Drivers

We're looking for safe, professional, experienced drivers with or without the PCV qualification to drive our passengers along our city centre and suburban routes.

You'll need to be excellent at customer service – friendly, approachable and helpful to every passenger who gets on your bus. You'll also complete walk-round checks to ensure your bus is road-worthy, check for lost property, use the on-bus radio, issue tickets and use ramps to help disabled customers as and when required.

We have ten bus garages located across the West Midlands in the areas below. When applying for one of our roles we aim to place you at the nearest location to your current address:

  • Acocks Green
  • Birmingham Central (in Digbeth)
  • Coventry
  • Bordesley Green
  • Perry Barr
  • Yardley Wood
  • Pensnett (Dudley)
  • Walsall
  • West Bromwich
  • Wolverhampton

The basic working week is 38 hours, working 5 days per week, which will include weekend working. The average working day is 7 hours and 36 mins. All work operates on a shift system, for example:

  • Early shifts: starting any time between 0350 and 0545
  • Splits / middle shifts: this is where your work is split into two portions (to cover the peak travel periods) – an AM and PM duty with an unpaid break between each portion
  • Late shifts: usually commencing sometime between 1545 and 1800 in the afternoon

Our recruitment process enables you to gather more information regarding the jobs, and to make the right decision as to whether the job is for you. Upon receipt of your application we will process your details, and if you meet our criteria we will invite you along to one of our recruitment events at our main training centres in one of our West Midlands locations. Here you will view a detailed presentation about the role you have applied for and have ample opportunity to ask our experienced recruitment officers any questions you may have about the job.

If a bus driving job sounds right for you, then we will start the recruitment process, which incorporates a written assessment, based on Highway Code traffic sign knowledge, driving theory based questions and a basic numeracy and literacy test. This is then followed by a driving assessment in a vehicle suitable to your licence, and then followed by an interview for us to get to know you on a more personal basis.

The training you will receive is provided at the highest level by experienced and qualfiied PCV driver training Instructors who will deliver accredited on-road practical training to you in order for you to obtain your PCV licence or up skill your current PCV driving standards, followed by essential core skills classroom based training to prepare you for service driving.
